The kind that makes you cry, but then it makes you laugh. And it has a fabulous ending! What more could you ask for? Each has his own place as a minor character and I lov Wow. Each has his own place as a minor character and I love that you get glimpses into the members of this family without feeling that they're taking over the story at all.

They're loving and hurting and injured and growing and just so wonderfully imperfect. How could a person not love them? Honestly, I wish they were real so I could go visit them! They both come from difficult pasts. And they both have their lives planned out and know what they want for their future And I also loved that, though it didn't feel like that much time had passed, their relationship developed over a couple months rather than being rushed.

Did Logan live up to my expectations? Anyone who follows Melissa Tagg online at all will know what I'm talking about here. He absolutely did. He's a wonderful character! And Amelia-- she's just so perfect for Logan. And her having a crush on him because of his writing hope that's not a spoiler for some of y'all is just adorable!! Well, you'll just have to read the book because I really can't even think how to begin to describe her. She was perfect.

Not as a person, of course, but I thought her character was written fabulously. Kudos to you, Melissa Tagg, for making me like this little girl more than I have liked a child in a book in a long while! I shall end by saying that I am excitedly awaiting another book from this author. She has impressed me to no end and I can't wait to get my hands on more of her writing!!

I say this about each new book that Melissa comes out with, but each time it's true - this is her best book so far and my new favorite! Her dialogue just sparkles and her characters shine on the page. Melissa's writing grows more and more refined with each book, and it's always so easy to fall into the story and relate to her characters.

In Like Never Before, we get the story of another Walker sibling - Logan Walker, and Amelia Bentley, a tenacious reporter at Maple Valley News - the business tha I say this about each new book that Melissa comes out with, but each time it's true - this is her best book so far and my new favorite! The town of Maple Valley became a haven for Amelia after suffering a terrible loss, but crusading for the failing town paper her passion or just a cause to hide behind? There are so many reasons I love this novel, and a big one is the charm of the setting. Maple Valley is such a solid presence throughout the story, quaint enough to be unique, yet realistic enough to feel like it could be a real place.

I wish it were a real place, so that I could put it on my bucket list to visit. The characters in the Walker family are all nuanced and realistic.

Books To Base Your Life on (The Reading List)

I love how Melissa gives the reader glimpses of stories to come for various characters throughout the story; they flow naturally throughout the present story and made me even more eager to read about the next Walker sibling. Logan and Amelia are great as a pairing, but even more important, they are fully fleshed-out individuals that have captivating character arcs as the story progresses. Melissa releases details in a very deft way — rather than dumping back story information on the reader, things are revealed through their thoughts and conversations with one another.

By the time they begin to trust and rely on one another, I felt like I knew who they were as individuals and could appreciate that separately from the romance. Sometimes the romantic tension was a tangible thing within the story, and there are certainly a few heart-pounding, sigh-worthy moments. I truly feel that Melissa has reached a high point in her writing. She is able to create moments of humor, romance, poignancy and self-discovery and place them in the story exactly where they need to go. Even though creating a story takes immense time and effort, it all just has an effortless feeling to it, flowing from one scene to the next with ease.

I mostly had a silly grin on my face while reading, but there were several instances where tears came to my eyes, and the words on the page resonated deeply within my heart. Like Never Before is even more enjoyable because of the sense of returning home that Maple Valley and the Walkers provide readers.

Jun 18, Hannah rated it it was amazing Shelves: rainbow-challenge , contemporary-fiction , writer-characters , owned-books , states , challenge , marathon-tbr An absolute delight of a book! I have a problem with Melissa Tagg's writing: I put off reading it because I know it's going to be heartfelt, vivid, and heartwarming. I hold off until I just really, really need a true comfort read. I needed a mostly-orange cover for a challenge, so it was the perfect excuse for a true comfort read. Highly recommended! Dec 05, Sarah Grace Grzy rated it it was amazing.

The messages, themes, lessons… whatever you choose to call them… they are such a story of her heart, passion, joy, and renewed belief in the talent and job God has gifted to her. The family and small-town dynamics fairly burst from the lines of text, and the quirkiness of Maple Valley adds an extra character to the mix. A delightful read that will surely challenge its readers to dig a little or a lot deeper into their own ideals and beliefs, Like Never Before is a great addition to the Walker Family series.

It was a delightful contemporary romance with humor and great characters. The writing style was very good and made the story engaging to read. The mark of a great book The two main characters, Logan and Amelia, were secondary characters in the first book and the in-between novella, From the Start and Three Little Words.

But one great thing about Tagg's books? You should read the books in order, but you don't have to The latest installment of Melissa Tagg's Walker Family Series arrived on the 24th, and I finished it four days later. You should read the books in order, but you don't have to to fully understand what is going on. A fantastic semi-sequential, semi-standalone series, this second book drew me right back into perhaps one of my most beloved fictional towns: Maple Valley, Iowa.

When he receives a letter from an old mentor who viewed him like a son, his life turns upside down as he goes home for what he thinks will be a temporary stay. Back in Maple Valley, we find Amelia Bentley--a driven, passionate reporter for the town's newspaper with a Lorelai Gilmore-esque love for the town that embraced her three years earlier when her life fell apart.

Seemingly random circumstances draw these two together--but, in reality, it's the Ultimate Author beginning their love story. Their love story together, and the Greatest Love that pulls their faith back up from the quaking, ash-filled depths of their aching hearts to renew and restore their faith. One thing in this novel I was delighted to see was the small historical storyline that was interwoven as one of the "conflicts" needing solved that kept pushing Amelia and Logan together.

Melissa has made no secret online for her great love for this particular fictional hero of hers--Logan Walker, and oh my word, I see why now. He is a steady, common-sense man with a huge heart and need to protect those he cares about that just left me sighing. Not to mention his appearance and quirks Melissa writes into the story makes him all the more swoon-worthy.

For fans of romantic comedies filled to the brim with so much heart set against the vivid backdrop of a Mid-Western Stars Hollow with comedic and heartwarming characters abounding! From the first email between Amelia and Logan, these two had me in smiles or frustrating sighs as they took me along their friendship-relationship journey.

Amelia's spunky fighting personality and Logan's love for the adorable, sweet Charlie and "single dad status" which tucked at my heartstrings , resulted in an enjoyable read. This author is quite new to me Only read and and did a great job of making me connect with the characters, in such a way that I found myself a few times where I want to hit Rick Logan's father-in-law with something on Logan's behalf.

The mystery about Kendall's security box kept things interesting and history lovers will probably love this addition. The relationship between Kendall and Amelia made me thing of the classic Daddy-Long-Legs which I still have to read but know about due to a modern book I've read based on the classic. A love-able, supporting family with a very wise dad, interesting siblings which can joke with each other but also be there when needed and a cute cozy small time set up, all adds to the warmth you as reader experience while reading this story. Readers who has read the Baxter series by Karen Kingsbury and the Christiansen family series by Susan May Warren will love this family series.

I'm rating this 4. You can only control your choices. And once that decision starts sinking into your bones, the wide-open spaces of your future get more invigorating than intimidating. Jun 13, Staci rated it really liked it Shelves: read-in The Walker Family and Maple Valley are easy to love.

It was fun to spend time with Logan and Amelia. I loved Amelia's fascination with Amelia Earhart and the letters she wrote to Mary. Logan won me over with his love for his young daughter and his cup half full attitude. Jun 18, Madison rated it it was amazing Shelves: christian , contemporary.

I loved this book. I laughed, I cried and I wanted to stay curled up in its pages forever. It is lovely to sink back into the cozy setting of Maple Valley, catch up with old friends and enjoy a new meeting of hearts. While the books in the Walker Family series could possibly be read independently it's probably best to read them in series order to stay abreast of who is who and how they fit into Maple Valley and the Walker family. I have read both the first book and the prequel novella and it still took me a few chapters to reacquaint myself with the characters and current setting of events.

For those who may have read book one a while ago and find things a little foggy here are a few hints. We met both Logan and Amelia in the first book of the series. Logan is the eldest Walker sibling - the second eldest, Kate, was the heroine of book one, and she is followed by Beckett Walker and then Raegan. Logan is a political speech writer, has a three-year-old daughter, Charlie, and his wife died in a car crash a few years ago.

Logan and Amelia have briefly met once before but Amelia feels like she knows Logan much better after hearing many stories from her boss at the Maple Valley newspaper, Logan's sister Raegan and from reading Logan's speeches.

She maybe has a bit of a crush on him and certainly on the way he writes. Logan Walker is charming. He wears ties, loves his little daughter, has a way with words, loves his family and is desperately trying to juggle everything in his life. I can totally understand why in her acknowledgments Melissa Tagg calls him the fictional love of her life. My heart ached for her, her past, her loneliness and the heartache she has endured.

Yet she is upbeat, full of fun and kindness. It takes a while in the book to learn the full story of Amelia's past. We first met her in the previous book and we know she is working for the local newspaper and that she came to Maple Valley a few years ago and immersed herself in the town after leaving her past behind, but her story really unfolds in this book and it is a delight to share in it. I love Logan and Amelia's relationship. They make great friends, slowly trusting each other with their pasts and fears. I loved the gentle, teasing banter they share, the sweet moments, and the ladened tension that develops between them good, kiss-building tension.

But their journey is not without its bumps, and the mix of testing times and good times are perfectly balanced. I really loved this book, love the vibrant characters and the charming setting and the promise of plenty of good love stories and family developments to come. I can't wait to read the next book in the series, but for now I am content to bask in the splendour of this story. Jul 21, Caitlyn Santi rated it it was amazing. Like Never Before was no exception! I was so excited to read this book, having fallen completely in love with the Walker family and the entire town of Maple Valley, Iowa! As soon as I turned the first page I found myself sighing in happiness, and thinking "Wow it feels like forever since I've gotten to visit this town and these characters. I mean, come on, a gorgeous guy who will ILL a book as a surprise for you! What's not to love? I was glad to learn his story, even though the sadness of his past did bring tears to my eyes at times!

It's really interesting because I actually found myself relating to Logan quite a lot, I too have a tendency to blame myself and feel guilt for everything that goes wrong, so the message in this book impacted me personally more than any non-fiction book ever could! I really liked Amelia too, I especially loved that she loved in a barn! Whenever I read one of Melissa's books I know I will end up laughing my head off all the way From the Start Yes, pun based off the title of the first book in this series most definitely intended!

Overall I absolutely loved Like Never Before, I feel like my review isn't even coming close to doing this amazing book justice, but for fear of spoiling something I will finish by saying this, Melissa's books are some of the most funny, entertaining, engaging, romantic, and yet incredibly deep and well rounded books that I have ever read! I can't wait to read Beckett's story when it releases next year but I have to admit that I am most excited for Raegan and Bear's story whenever it finally releases!!!!!!

I was honored to receive a review copy of this amazing book from Bethany House publishers in exchange for my honest review! It's my favorite in the series so far, and I'm looking forward to books 3 and 4. The only super-minor complaint was that there seemed to be way too many descriptions of weather changes. And maybe it can find you again, even years later, after you've let it go. Mar 15, Lilian rated it liked it Shelves: link-has. I didn't like this one as much as the first, and I kind of skimmed the last one-third of it would've DNFed it but I wanted to see what happened with Charlie.

Review of Book 1 Here! The cute spine! It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author. Mar 31, Sarah Vanscoyoc rated it it was amazing. Oh my goodness! Then I fell in love with her books and she immediately became one of my very favorite authors! I wait all year for another of her books and then cheer when it arrives. She can take me from laughing, to almost crying, and back again. I loved getting to visit with these characters who have become like family and meeting new ones to fall in love with.

The writing is exceptional, as always, and her details and descriptions still just blow me away! How she can create such beautiful scenes and bring every setting so fully to life within my imagination is one of my favorite things about her books. I love the mental images her words evoke and the uniqueness of how she describes even the smallest details. I also adored the dialogue between the characters! USD Sign in to Purchase Instantly.
