When I meditate I will always try to focus on each body part and then tense and release it. I always remember myself that my body is only a vessel and that thoughts are not real. I was the same as you at first and still am to some degree ; I like guided meditations and hypnosis to prevent my mind from wandering.

Although it is great to sometimes just close your eyes and let your mind wander naturally without any intention. As you say practice does makes perfect,and the more capable you become at relaxing, you will find that you deliberately switch off at times, just to prevent yourself from getting stressed.

These kinds of relaxation exercises can be very beneficial. It is important to take time every day to relax in some way. I like to do a form of mantra meditation in the morning, where I silently repeat a sound in my mind. Later in the day, I like to do mindfulness, where I walk around outside and fully engage with my senses. Wow — this sounds really interesting. I will definitely try these relaxation exercises especially before I go to sleep. I always tend to wake up in the middle of the night with anxiety.
