Very interesting technique Ness, do you have a video on the wreath being moulded and the moulder? If not, could you make a video? Would be interested in seeing the fixturing and feeding techniques. Thanks, Bob Horenn. Hi Bob, I use a French spindle but this is a bit tricky and takes to long so we are actually setting up a jig to push most parts through a traditional spindle moulder.
I have some photos of me using the French spindle here It works well but needs touching up by hand which slows down production. I think that for some fast turning parts it will still need to done using this machine but we are hoping that a simple 3 point jig on a normal spindle moulder will give a faster solution. In these videos I show off a few parts that are very twisting and would probably not go through a spindle moulder: Wooden Handrail on Metal Rail Part 3. Please note that these videos are a bit out dated as I have now found some PU glue that sets hard enough not to require giving plaster support to the form before laminating.

Thanks a million!!! Follow Unfollow. Follow Following Unfollow. This project took us about 4 week to do. We had to do several things that were a challenge. The first was to build a steam box to bend the handrail. The second thing we had to do was build a form to wrap the handrail around once the handrail was steamed. After the handrail gets steamed it gets immediately clamp to the form.
After 24hrs of setting dry in the forms it is ready for gluing. The handrail pieces receives glue and then places back in the forms at the site location for tweaking and bending into location as needed. Wait another 24hrs. It is basically what sold me on the house!

Cassity started Remodelaholic with her husband, Justin, to share their love for knocking out walls together. Thank you so much for having us again! Love all of your staircase remodels you have done and featured!
Work of double curvature, or how to bend handrail the way it doesn’t go.
They gave us a ton of inspiration for this one! Wow your stairs look great! Just to have ours stained we got quoted 2K. Needless to say we will be doing it ourselves when the time comes. Thank you Lisa! Oh my!!! That is why it is always better to DIY. Good Luck!
LOVE this remodel, but please can you correct the comment about the spinels must be 4 inches minimum apart. I want to copy this lovely remodel project!
What stain color and wall color did you use? Thank you! Thanks Mary!
Curved and Geometric Staircases and Handrails
We used winwax wood stain for the stairs. And the wall color we actually got a sample from Restoration Hardware called Gravel from their Flint paint collection, brought it to Home Depot and had them match it in an eggshell finish. We have used it on both of our houses now, we love it! I love the update! We actually just flipped a Spanish style home and did leave the metal staircase spindles. Our builder mis-measured and the staircase is steeper than it should be. Can you tell me the measurement of your stairs from the beginning of the first step to the wall on the opposite side and the measurement going the other way?
Basically, I need the foot print measurement.
