After reading a few reviews that said this book had an "unrealistic " storyline, I remind these folks that this is fiction not a factual story. After stating this I must say I enjoyed both the writing and the narration. If you've listened to this series you won't be disappointed. I've enjoyed previous books in this series more.
The plot line in High Treason deals with a very messy White House. However, considering today's messy reality, perhaps I simply didn't enjoy the story. The Jonathan Grave series by John Gilstrap is good "fill in listening" when I do not have a really good suspense thriller to listen to. I listened to this book three years ago and did not write a review. I'm currently listening to Book 2 in the series Hostage Zero. High Treason is an excellent suspense thriller that could have been better. Your use of the site and services is subject to these policies and terms. Common Knowledge Series Jonathan Grave.
Series: Jonathan Grave Series by cover. Series description. Harry Dawkins. Alejandro Azul. Graham Mitchell. Jonathan Grave aka Scorpion. Jolaine Cage. Related book awards Thriller Award Nominee. Thriller Award. How do series work? Just have to wait and see where Gilstrap takes the character. Jonathan Grave and Boxers are back, and in fine form as usual. There's plenty of action and political intrigue in this page-turner, and a well-developed cast of supporting characters don't tell Venice she's "supporting" thought - she'll probably hack your computer and post embarrassing pictures of you all over the web.
Great read. Action packed thriller that will not disappoint.
I enjoy the Jonathan Graves series. It's no more implausible than MOST of fiction, especially some other genre's. And isn't that the point of fiction? The High Treason story is entertaining and gripping. You feel the fear of the minor characters. You feel the intensity of the major characters. THAT'S what good fiction does! Paul Wilson, who all have larger than life heroes with fantastical lives and missions, you will absolutely enjoy John Gilstrap's Jonathan Graves series I highly recommend them all. I've loved all four of Gilstrap's previous novels, and I really wanted to love this one, too - but it ust didn't grab me.
The plot - first lady kidnapped, Jonathan 'Digger' Grave called in to perform an off-the-books rescue - seemed excellent, and the opening chapters were great, but the more I read, the less I enjoyed. None of these types of thrillers are hugely believable, and I always remember going in that it's a novel not a work of history.
But even so this one just seemed completely imposs I've loved all four of Gilstrap's previous novels, and I really wanted to love this one, too - but it ust didn't grab me. But even so this one just seemed completely impossible. I'll read another Gilstrap novel soon, and see how he bounces back.
Hundreds of bad guys killed and not a single good guy. John Gilstrap writes like you are there. This story should be made into a movie series with the two heroes, Scorpion and Big Guy not changed a hair. Great stories. Great series Another winner in this series. Gilstrap delivers book after book with outstanding characters and heart tugging storylines. This one didn't disappoint. A good thriller, 5th in the series. Very exciting book by Gilstrap. Always fun to watch Scorpion and Big Guy working so well together.
These Johnathan Grave books are almost impossible to put down. Love the characters and the action. Not bad for a first read. I would read others in the series. Great read!!!! Great series!!!!!
Dec 02, Rob Smith, Jr. Number 5 in the series supports my view that the Jonathan Grave series is like a literary comic book. The plots are far fetched, especially this one. First to first note: I read this in a month after the presidential election. An angle in this story is as if Gilstrap could see the future. It's hard not to read this and imagine certain people involved. Even though the story is wild, it is a fun one. This is hard not to read fast as I was trying to figure out if the story was as outrageous Number 5 in the series supports my view that the Jonathan Grave series is like a literary comic book.
This is hard not to read fast as I was trying to figure out if the story was as outrageous as it seemed and if the resolution fit the story or cheated the reader. It fit the story. Characters are all very well written, with the exception of the hero. More below. As usual, though there is plenty of description, the settings are still hard to grasp at times. This entry in the series could have used a bunch of editing as some things are learned that don't really matter and the settings are lacking. This is especially true at the end where the setting is critical to the story.
The ending is fun, but just ridiculous.

This resolution stretches all points of credulity and I didn't buy any of it. Especially that no character died in all that happened or even got seriously injured. There are many drawbacks in consistency in 5. First: A certain character that had been part of the last few books has entirely vanished with no mention at all. That wouldn't bother me but there is the re-re-retelling of who the main character is, his pals, the HQ, etc. If all of that is to be rehashed each time, finishing a plot line from the last book should have been done. A serious drawback: This is really one of the worst cases of Gilstrap stumbling in his writing.
I guess to make the book work and to fill the lost of a member of the team, he tossed in a few other characters as helpers. However, earlier versions of the Jonathan Graves would never had done that, nor should the character have done it here, either. This really caved the book for me.

If all sorts of strategy is being explained throughout, Gilstrap should have tried to explain the decision to include the helpers in the resolution. Sappy dialogue doesn't cut it. My further concern is that Gilstrap mentions at the end that two of the helpers are based on two real people. I'd like to hope Gilstrap didn't sacrifice the story for little rewards. Because the inclusion did sacrifice the story. As much fun as this one is, it is a loss for me, so Bottom line: i don't recommend this book. A very good and entertaining novel and I enjoyed reading this novel.
I recommend this novel to everyone. Now that I have read all of their books, I find it difficult to fill the time as I am a "chain listener". After my third Jonathan Grave, I found myself cursing and groaning out loud.
I can't take it. At one point, he will be teaching his PCs precious cargo. If I had a nickel for every time the author explained that! Come on, now! If any of the above authors are your favorites and you are looking for something similar, don't look here. More titles to consider
No one. High Treason is the latest Jonathan Grave thriller. Digger as his friends call him , Boxer, Venice and the rest of the hostage rescue team are back at it, and this time the stakes are higher than ever. It is the First Lady herself who has disappeared in a hail of gunfire and dead secret service agents.
But her disappearance is kept secret, and maybe there is more to the situation than it seem No one writes action-explosions-gun battle all-hell-is-breaking-loose scenes like John Gilstrap. But her disappearance is kept secret, and maybe there is more to the situation than it seems. Has the First Lady's sordid past kept secret from the American public caught up with her? Or are ominous forces inside the highest halls of power involved? The story rips along at John Gilstrap's usual break-neck pace.
But the afterburners kick in when we start finding out the real truth, and when Digger and Boxer start loading up the firepower and explosives. So jump on board and cinch up your seatbelt. It's one helluva ride! I received this book as part of the Goodreads First Read program. She approaches rescue specialist Jonathan Grave to track down and recover the First Lady. With little to go on, Grave has to dig into the First Lady's past. It seems that Lady Anna Darmond, has her own deeply buried secrets.
At one time she was a Russian terrorist.
